Numbers do not matter. Having a list of 2000 people does not matter. Having a list of 20,000 people does not matter. This is such a painful concept to understand because it goes against all the stuff most bloggers teach. Build a HUGE email list. Drive HUGE traffic to your blog. Get MORE followers to your blog. BIG NUMBERS WIN!!!!
The only thing that matters is generously, slowing and patiently building a small but growing tribe of human beings who absolutely love what you do, who buy your stuff, who hire you, who promote you, who endorse you, and who spread your word. Again, TOTALLY against most blogging advice you see out there because most teach you how to get big numbers. Few teach you how to build strong bonds with a few select humans who become rabid fans and help you become a pro blogger.
Observe my friend Chayan at Simple Facts Online. We connected a while back. Began helping each other. No strings attached. Gradually, we became friends. We keep helping each other, boosting our traffic, increasing income, expanding our reach. This is it. This is successful blogging. Do you want to go pro? Generously, genuinely, make friends with human beings who blog, one at a time. This is how to go pro. This is how to create lasting blogging success. Stop trying to get 1000 followers because 1000 is a number. Numbers cannot do anything. Did a number ever buy my eBook? Nope. Chayan did, though. This is a confusing lesson because most bloggers drill into your skull; get big numbers, and succeed. Not true. Not true at all.
I email only active list subscribers. This number would be considered incredibly small by most blogging and internet marketing standards. But every one of those human beings opens my emails, reads my posts, and many promote me, endorse me and buy my stuff. Every single fan is a pillar who bolsters my pro blogging career. Heck; 10 human beings who hire you, buy your stuff and endorse/promote you can help you go pro over years because their persistent prospering adds up to a full time income.
I know of a multi millionaire blogger who built a super small, but hyper targeted, rabidly loyal, supportive, email list. He stressed how most bloggers would be shocked at the size of his list. But literally every human being on his list opens his emails, reads, visits his blog and prospers him. Imagine 10 human beings who love what you do, hiring you to coach them for one month, at $1000 per client. That is $10,000. Imagine 7 human beings who love what you do, buying your $10 eBook. That’s $70. Imagine 14 people promoting your latest post on Twitter, 12 of their followers buying your audio book. $30. And so on. And so forth. Numbers do not matter, but rabid, loyal fans who hire you, buy your stuff and promote you, do astounding things when you give THEM virtually ALL of your attention, and zero attention to numbers on a screen.
All you need is 10 to 20 loyal fans, multiple streams of income and years of effort to go pro because these 10-20 loyal fans will keep making you money and keep driving traffic to your blog through thick, thin and all in between. Observe the power of love. People who love what you do help you make money online over the long haul. Focus on helping loyal fans. Every loyal fan becomes a brand advocate, opening all of your emails, boosting your traffic and increasing your blogging profits.
Again; a millionaire many times over built his fortune through a select few people who co-created his fortune, these folks being loving, loyal fans who followed his every word. Focus on befriending and serving these loving fans. Give no attention and energy to numbers. Success will be yours.
