Imagine a tiny little stream after a long, dry summer.
Water barely trickles through, a few drops at a time.
Now imagine a roaring rapids of a deluge flowing down a mountain cavern after 3 days of torrential rain.
I lived beside Rio Chirripo in Rivas, Costa Rica – see me in the picture above – for a month during my 6 year world tour. These swiftly flowing rapids could move massive boulders after heavy low season downpours.
The difference between the tiny, trickle of a stream and the savage, powerfully flowing rapids is like the difference between opening 1 versus multiple streams of income.
Which brings us to 1 fundamental of successful blogging: monetizing incrementally.
I currently have these income streams open:
- blog coaching
- freelance writing
- eBooks on Amazon
- eBooks on Selz
- audio books on iTunes, Amazon and Audible
- paperbacks on Amazon and CreateSpace
- affiliate income streams
- paid links
- sponsored posts
- advertising revenue
- paid tweets
- online courses through Selz, Teachable and Send Owl
I steadily add streams as I uncover creative ideas through which I can help folks.
I did not wake up one day to unlimited inspiration, establishing these streams in a day or week.
I gradually introduced these streams over time, every 3-6 months, to create a steady flow of income through my blog.
First off, income streams do not make money in and of themselves.
Your energy either allows in money or does not allow in money.
Streams are just receiving channels.
Blog with love. Blog predominantly for fun. Face, embrace and release fears.
The prior 3 steps are the money makers.
The below practical tips help you receive money:
- add a blogging income stream every 3-6 months
- learn the stream inside out
- study the stream by following the teachings of bloggers who have worked that stream
- Put your knowledge into practice immediately; as you learn, teach
- only choose income streams that seem fun to work
- invest in a mindset or energy themed course to help face, embrace and release money-related fears/limiting beliefs
The biggest challenge of monetizing is not getting too attached to 1 income stream.
I made this error for years. I would add 1 stream and get stupid attached to this cash flow channel, worrying and fretting and trying like heck to force money through the stream.
I struggled during these times because I feared losing money through a few select streams.
By embracing and releasing this fear I did more blogging stuff from a place of love, not fear. Making this shift helped me both make more money through my established income channels and add more income streams incrementally over time.
Imagine 1 blogging cash flow stream.
Then imagine 5 streams.
Then imagine 15 streams.
Establish multiple sources of income to:
- have fun
- help people
- make more money
On a quick visit to Blogging From Paradise you can get help through my online courses, eBooks, audio books and services. Toss in my other cash flow channels and you have an ever increasing number of ways through which I can help you and through which I can prosper.
Instead of thinking, “I NEED to land this 1 client!” you will receive weekly payments, monthly royalty payments through multiple channels and daily payments (sometimes at first, then, more frequently) for both products sold and services rendered.
Just remember: make having fun and spreading love your primary blogging goals. These energies are the money-making energies and the channels are simply means of having fun, helping and receiving money.
