Say yes only to freedom.
Say no to everything else.
This is probably the toughest skill for a professional blogger to develop because you fear saying no to opportunities tying you down. I could spend the next 3 hours doing stuff that tied me down but then I would not have become a professional blogger. I could try to respond to everything possible online as far as social media chats, likes, retweets and shares. I do respond quite often but I cannot respond to everything because doing so would tie me down and slow down my blogging growth. I say yes to freedom.
Saying yes to freedom means spending a good chunk of my day writing blog posts and guest posts like this because each post leverages my presence quickly, expanding my freedom and success. But if I spent 15 hours trying to respond to everything on social media and all comments on my thousands of guest posts, I would tie myself down. Engaging is key but spending 100% of your attention and energy trying to engage every single person who chats you up online or likes your stuff ties you down and slows down your blogging growth.
Notice how blogging icons stick to the basics of creating content and building connections. These folks do not spend six or eight or ten hours responding to every single retweet or Facebook Like or comment because doing so would tie them down and slow down their blogging growth. Plus they would never have become a highly successful professional bloggers in so doing. Successful pro bloggers mainly do freeing things to help people and to leverage their presence. Ultimately, it is all about leveraging and doing freeing things for the bulk of your pro blogging day to ensure everything keeps growing. If I write and publish this guest post, everything will keep growing because I’m doing the freeing thing of writing for a huge audience on a blog that ranks fairly high for a “blogging” keyword search on Google. This is fun and freeing.
But if I spent this 25 minutes trying to respond to every single person who engages me online versus writing the guest post I would tie myself down a little bit because my time is better spent leveraging through guest posting. Of course I engage quite a bit on social media to build Bonds and to accelerate my success but I need to say no to engaging everybody because I would not be able to scale, succeed and be free unless I spent most of my day doing freeing, leveraging things.
Pro bloggers have such a tough time scaling, leveraging and becoming incredibly successful because they fear letting go activities they had outgrown a long time ago. Bloggers complain about having no blog post ideas or time yet they are up until 2 a.m. trying to respond to everybody. Do you know who responds to everybody online? In virtually every case, a failing blogger or a pro blogger who reaches their ceiling quickly. Respond to a fair number of people then keep writing blog posts and guest posts and building bonds by promoting top bloggers without asking for anything. This is how you accelerate your blogging success. This is how you say yes to freedom and how you say no to everything else.
