Are You Ready to Create an Online Store for your Blog?

Are You ready to Create an Online Store for Your Blog

Blogging is generally used to communicate with your target audience and share your thoughts and ideas with them. However, due to the ever-changing landscape of digital marketing, people are now using their blogging for more than just writing.

Nowadays, they can sell their digital products and services for the consumption of their audience.

If you are a blogger and wish to use your platform to upsell your products and services, then you need to follow a certain path to ensure that you can seamlessly make your transition from being a blogger to a seller.

Does your audience trust you?

The transformation of a blog from just a thought platform to an all-encompassing online space to transact with your customers follows a logical flow. Bloggers can establish authority in their niche through the posts they publish. If they are attracting a readership with their blogs, it means that they have built a trustworthy reputation.

Once bloggers have reached this level of reputation in their market, it will be easier for them to convince readers to perform their desired action, which includes buying from them!

Do you have anything to sell?

Online selling is traditionally reserved for eCommerce sites selling physical products. However, it is possible for bloggers to break the mold, especially one you have your target audience in the palm of your hand. A perfect example of how to set up an online store, can be seen at, as the site isn’t just extremely specific on what they sell, it’s also niche-focused and makes it quite easy for anyone looking to buy airsoft products through the site. You can see a screenshot below of what we mean.

As a blogger, your word is your currency. Everything you write and publish is of value to your readers. They frequent your blog to read the latest post you published so they can pick your brain and learn as much from your words as they can.

Therefore, you need to leverage your influence into profit!

Since you don’t have a physical product to sell, you can turn your words into products themselves. Below are ways that you can do them so you can sell them on your blog.

You can write a topic that your audience wants to learn from you and turn it into an e-book file, preferably a .pdf file. You need to go in-depth about the topic and deliver value as you always do with your blog posts. However, since you plan on selling these to people, you must go the extra mile and make it worth every penny they spent for your ebook.

Darren Rowse has made a living blogging for his audience, but he has used the authority he has accumulated throughout the years by monetizing his knowledge into e-books as seen on this page on his blog.

When people buy your e-course, they need to login to your blog to unlock the content. The course is ideally divided into chapters, with each chapter ending with a quiz to test your students and see if they learned anything they need to know from the module.

Take a cue from Videofruit’s Bryan Harris when he set up the Rapid List Building Course. One of the things he’s superb at is helping people increase their email subscribers using different tactics, and the e-course reveals some of the tricks he’s using for his clients that members can replicate on their own.

Membership site

Create a section on your blog where your audience can sign up and subscribe to activate premium and exclusive content. Similar to e-courses, you need to segment the content into different modules so people can go at their pace.

Aside from the content, you can build a vibrant community where members can share ideas of their own and spark civil discussion about your niche in general. You can use this section to impose your authority and knowledge in your market further to inspire members to do better on your course.

Setting up an e-course is much more technical compared to others. However, it is arguably more useful and profitable since you can bill your students every month. An excellent example of an e-course is Leah Kalamakis’ Freelance to Freedom Project.

To see an excellent e-course for free, you can sign up to Nifty Blogging and see how Dominique Jackson develops the content geared towards newbie bloggers.

How will you sell your product?

There are two aspects of selling your product from your blog: the platform you will use and promoting it.

There are many platforms to choose from when selling your ebooks. If you want a straightforward, no-frills approach to selling your digital content, you can use Gumroad, which allows you to create a landing page from a different site where your audience can make their transaction. The site will take a fraction of every successful sale, but it’s just a dead-simple tool that requires little setup.

However, if you want a more comprehensive tool that allows more functionality and customization to your blog’s online store, you may use Shopify as your platform of choice. You can sell directly from your blog, provide multiple payment options, and present your e-book in a professional manner. Shopify works even better if you’re planning on developing more e-books in the pipeline so you can create a dedicated page on your blog similar to Darren Rowse’s.

For creating courses and membership sites, you must use a premium tool that will let you manage your content and the members who will subscribe to your program. There are lots of programs to choose from, although you are sure to hold an edge if you run your blog on WordPress due to the wealth of resources available. If you like how Nifty Blogging presents its content, then you can give Teachable a try.

As you develop a trustworthy reputation in your field, you need to find a way to turn your influence into cold, hard cash. Since you already have your readers eating at the palm of your hands, you can provide them more value by offering them premium content at a price.

Setting up an online shop is ultimately beneficial to both parties. On the one hand, the products and courses you will sell will help you earn money on the side, if not turn it into a living. On the other, your audience will benefit greatly from the secrets you will share your exclusive content. It’s a win-win situation, which makes setting up an online store for your blog more sense!

  • financial investment; domain and hosting at a minimum
  • time investment
  • energy investment

Blogging is a skill. You invest money to begin developing the skill effectively. Add time and energy through your blogging work and you lay the foundation for a successful blogging career.

People see the free platform, believe you to be an amateur, you lose your credibility as potential readers do not trust you, and folks exit your blog.

Investing Money to Make Money

Observe my blog:

Blogging From Paradise

I invested thousands of dollars in my blog over the years and made a lot more money than thousands of dollars.

I bought my domain and hosting 10 years ago as an investment in freedom and greater profits.

Fast forward a decade; I have circled the globe for 8 years, living in places like Fiji, Bali and Costa Rica. The thousands of dollars I invested allowed me to:

  • gain reader trust
  • convey a professional brand image
  • be seen as one of the top bloggers on earth
  • increase blog traffic
  • increase eBook sales, course sales and audio book sales
  • be featured on world famous sites
  • move higher in blogging circles

Imagine if I began blogging for free. Would Fox News want to interview a blogger using a free blogging platform? No. Of course Fox News seeks out renowned leaders and every blogging leader invests money in blogging to do blogging right.

Free Platforms Look Cheap and Unprofessional

Free blogging platforms look terrible.

Can you ever gain reader trust if your blog looks terrible?

Observe the long, wordy, non-branded domain name, including the free hosting company. Imagine if was Would you trust CNN if the corporation used a free blogging platform? No.

This is from my trip to Turkey.

Imagine if was Would you trust the content? No.

Even if you intend to never profit through your blog you better buy your domain and hosting because few if any readers trust bloggers on free platforms.

How to Build Brand Authenticity Using Customer Generated Content

Creating quality content is the best thing someone can ever do for their company. When done right, it generates a lot of traffic towards the website thus giving a high likelihood of converting the followers into leads. Unfortunately, quality content is expensive and can use up a lot of money, time, and very exhaustive.

Fortunately for us, there is another way to get quality content without having to go through all this hustle. When you make use of this strategy, it will turn out to be more powerful and accurate than other cumbersome methods. This solution is known as User Generated Content (UGC) since it is one of the simplest way to get results without getting tired.

What is the significance of UGC?

The moment you make use of content generated by customers, you automatically create trust with other customers. This is because more than 80% of consumers find content generated by their fellow customers to be convincing and true than what the brands can write about themselves. The assumption is that no one will ever write negatives about themselves unless third parties take over.

UGC is the most authentic type of content as 98% of it is true since customers have no interests in the customers creating profits. If something is bad, they will write it as it is. The reverse is also true. It is therefore recommendable to spend more time curating on the content written by consumers rather than the company itself. You can also use a tool like to better create content for your audience and to also rank higher in Google for multiple keywords and search phrases.

The other advantage of UGC is the ability to track all the conversations and mentions. This mostly helps by finding out what the customers think about your services and products. In case of any problem, you can address the same issue. You are allowed to comment on the same wall towards their plights.

The other advantage is to help a company in saving time meant to write content. This time can be allocated to other issues that help in accumulating profits for the business.

Ways to Build an Effective UCG Marketing Strategy

1 – Choose your platform wisely

You do not just create a CGC in any area. The first thing is to ensure that you have a good number of active followers in online platforms. In addition to this, remember that each platform works differently; Facebook users are known for sharing content whereas Instagram is more of visuals. When you ask people for content, remember to be specific with what you want since a lot of us are ready to talk about anything we wish.

2 – Collect independent customer reviews

Customers’ reviews are very vital to any business as they act as personal recommendations to other people who are yet to try your brand. In fact, a lot of people prefer to read a number of reviews before making a conclusion on whether to buy or not. If someone comes across two or more negative comments, a good number will pull away from your page. Remember that savvy customers will always spot fake reviews hence the more reason to stick to authentic customers. The only way to win their hearts is by offering what you promised in the first place.

3 – Offer rewards

There is nothing as encouraging as being rewarded for doing something. Offering rewards attracts a lot of people towards your page as everyone is eager to get something. Don’t try too hard by getting expensive gifts. You can promise that a winner will have their tweets retweeted or you feature their article or business on your page. Not only will they feel happy that they are part of your success but will also attract new users to subscribe.

Neil Patel is often preaching about the process of offering rewards and getting users to submit an email address on your site — which you can then follow up with afterwards. You can read more on Neil and his most recent resources in this article from

4 – Support a charity event

You need to remind your customers that your brand is not after making profits but rather in helping the community in different events such as acts of charity. Let people know that you have a greater vision for them too.

Online platforms can either break or boost your business. This is because a lot of people have turned to recommendation on social media by strangers or friends. If you want better reviews, ensure that your products are quality and services are up to standard.

User Generation Content is the Way to Go!

With more than a billion active websites and blogs on the internet today, content overload is happening daily. The same is true for brands and bloggers that are struggling to create original content on their own.

The better option is to build a platform or content creation and marketing plan that relies on content being created from other users. After all, how much content has Facebook or Instagram ever made… and look at how huge and massive their brands are!
