Daileez is a brand new online diary that lets users record their days in the form of icons. Diaries and journals are nice but can be very time consuming. With Daileez you can use icons to record your feelings, moods, activities, events and more. You can also include a short text summary with your icons if you choose. You’ll get your own subdomain that can be shared with the world or kept private; it’s up to you. There is also social media integration (Facebook and Twitter) for publishing across the Web.
With Daileez, if you don’t want to create an account, you can use Facebook connect to login instead. Either way when setting up your account, this is where you choose whether you’d like your account to be public or private.
Once logged in, you simply choose an icon under weather, mood, sleep and mental activity to describe how you’re feeling. You can then choose an activity icon (if desired) below that to describe what you’re doing or what event you have going on. You’ll also be able to write a summary with up to 255 characters to go along with it. You can save changes as you go along and it’s very easy to come back later and add to or change your entry.
So, it’s almost like updating your status on Facebook, except you get to associate icons with it. There does not appear to be a large amount of icons and, there also does not seem to be a way to upload your own. There are 7 categories of activity icons to choose from: fun, sports, emo, money, travel, chores and health.
There is also a separate text box for attaching a status to go along with your entry. This can be used if you want to share your entry on Facebook and/or Twitter. If you have connected your Facebook account when signing up, you can alternately just choose to share your entry (without a status) on Facebook; you’ll see this option above the below-pictures status area.
You’ll want to head to the settings to set your timezone and update your optional bio. Here you can also change your privacy settings if you need to.
Under “Statistics” you’ll find some interesting info pertaining to your entries. You’ll be able to see your icons spread throughout the month and year. You will also be able to see the most popular icons used by all (public) users per day. “The category of the month lets you know which group of your experiences was significant for the given month.”
Clicking on “Yesterday” you’ll be able to see global statistics in the form of 4×4 matrix boxes. Each box will tell you something different. This is a great way to see how other people were feeling or what they were doing yesterday. Being able to see such in-depth data is definitely one of the most interesting things about Daileez.
I really like Daileez because it’s so easy to use and it only takes a minute or two to add an entry. It’s also fun to see what other users are up to. Keeping an online dairy or journal doesn’t have to be a chore anymore; you can now have fun with it. I only wish that you could set your privacy on an entry basis. It would be nice to have a private entry if needed without having to set your entire account to private.
