I have been getting many of the newsletters from the blogs I have subscribed to and most of them include the special offers or some very useful links for us (Subscribers).
I am very new to blogging and honestly speaking have a very few subscribers for my blog so never used a newsletter. Moreover it won’t be wrong if I say that I don’t know how to write an effective newsletter, neither do I know how they help a blog to grow.
So, today I searched ‘Newsletters’ and did a thorough research on every aspect of it. Right from the basics of “what is a newsletter” to “how to write a newsletter” and furthermore “how a newsletter can help you grow a blog”.
Just to keep a record of what I researched I thought of writing a post on all my research and which blog can be a better place than bloggingtips.com to publish this post.
Let’s get started…
What Is an Email Newsletter?
A content broadcast sent to the subscribers on a regular schedule (monthly, weekly or daily) through mail is what we call a newsletter. The main motto to send the newsletter is to stay in touch with the subscribers and blog readers.
Benefits of Sending an Email Newsletter
Why should we send an email newsletter? How it will benefit us?
To get answer to this question I discussed it some of blogger friends who are doing well in blogging. The combined answer I got was that the email newsletter is the mode of offering extra benefits to their readers who support them extra. Moreover the email newsletters encourage the blog readers to stay connected and be supportive.
Below are some detailed benefits which I got to know after talking to some leading bloggers.
Assured reach– As compared to other sharing options like social media shares, Facebook and Twitter email newsletters brings assured reach to our blog. The reason is quite simple, people might miss your status update or tweet but they tend to check the unread emails more carefully.
Total control- You have total control over your email and also you are not bound to add limited characters like in Twitter. An email newsletter allows you a better integration of your blog as compared to the social network sharing.
Easy announcements- Sending an Email newsletter is the best way to share the new developments and announcements of our blog. It brings the maximum and assured feedback from the readers and subscribers.
Better Targeting – When you send the email newsletters you know that which specific part of the world you are targeting. It helps in sharing a post with better targeted audience. For example if you have an offer especially for people in U.S. you can target the specific users for sending the newsletter which may surely bring a better conversion rate. You can also target the subscribers/readers on basis of their interest. For example if you have a group of users regularly responding on your software related posts, you know that they might be interested in some of your discount offer of Software and you may send the email newsletter only to that particular group.
Better Affiliate Commission- If you are an affiliate marketer newsletters can bring better commissions for you. The email newsletters work the best to offer the exclusive discounts to the subscribers as compared to the social sharing. As I have mentioned it above the people might miss your status updates on social networks but they will surely check the mail having some discount information.
Offer Freebies- Email newsletter is the best mode to offer the freebies to your subscribers. This way the subscribers will stay loyal to your blog. The freebies could be eBooks, free online courses, pen drives etc.
Popular Email Newsletter Services For Newbie Bloggers
There are certain WordPress plugins and software which allow you to send the newsletters but those are not recommended by the experts. These software and plugins may show low deliverability rate, SPAM issues, and many other problems in long run.
There are some renowned email newsletter services available which are highly recommended by the experts, although these services are paid but the efficacy makes them worth it.
Aweber, MailChimp and EmailBuddy are some of the best known paid email newsletter services available.
Well if you do not want to shell out before you turn big, you can also go for some of the free email newsletter services in WordPress. Few of such good ones include- WP Email Capture, free email newsletter service using WordPress and FeedBurner.
WP Email Capture is a good plugin but it just allows you to collect and store the email addresses and not to send your email newsletters. You can rater export your stored emails to some popular email newsletter service.
FeedBurner and free email newsletter service help you to send the email newsletter but then again you don’t have much control over them. You don’t really have a control over the timings of your email delivery and moreover you can’t also segment your emails.
Well if you want to go only for a free service you better go for the MailChimp free service. You can collect upto 2000 emails for FREE from MailChimp which is no ways less for a beginner.
MailChimp free service provides many features like segmenting the emails, split testing and much more. The only limitation is that you can send only 6 email update per month. Well this is actually more than enough for a new blog.
This means if you have 2000 mails in your MailChimp list you can send 12,000 mails per month and I guess it is fair enough.
Well, I am done with my post and would certainly like to tell you that these are all tips from some leading bloggers around which I often read and then share with my fellow bloggers.
I, myself am a newbie blogger I am following these techniques and getting good results so sharing them with my blogger friends who have just stepped-in to the blogging.
