Adding new plugins within WordPress gives you the ability to do far more with your WordPress website. You can add design elements, functionality, security and much more with WordPress plugins. Here’s our guide to help you learn how to add new plugins in WordPress.
Where to Start-how to add new plugins in wordpress
The “Add New” link for plugins is found under “Plugins” within the WordPress Dashboard.
Once you go to this section, you will have the option to search the massive database of plugins or if you have already downloaded the plugin, you can upload it from the top upload button.
Searching the plugin database can be done with the search box or by using the four tabs across the top of the screen.
The search box simply allows you to enter a search term to find the right WordPress plugin for your website. If you know what you are looking for, this is probably the best option for finding your new plugin.
If you’re not sure what you are looking for, you can use the plugin tabs to search for featured, popular, recommended or favorite plugins. All four of these sections will show you top plugins found within the WordPress plugin database.
Installing your New Plugin
Once you find the plugin you want to install, you can start the process by clicking the “Install Now” button.
This will install the plugin and take you to the page allowing you to activate the plugin.
If you have already downloaded your plugin and you need to upload it, click on the “Upload Plugin” button at the top of the plugin page. Then, you will need to browse your computer to find the .zip folder you downloaded for the plugin.
Once you find the right file, just click the “Install Now” button and you will be able to activate the plugin on the next page.
What Happens After you Add a New Plugin?
After you have added your new plugin, you will be able to adjust the settings, activate, deactivate or delete the plugin. Some plugins will install a new item in the sidebar of the WordPress Dashboard, while others will locate themselves in one on the existing tabs.
