This is one of those blogging lessons that seems so hard to learn. You want to enjoy blogging but you also want to know you will actually make money through this medium. I know. I have been there. Making money and driving traffic are two common goals of all professional bloggers but the money and traffic flows to you if you become fully invested in the blogging process not in the outcomes themselves.
What do I mean by blogging outcomes? Money. Traffic. Business. Think some outcome of your blogging efforts. Most bloggers fail to drive traffic and make money because they obsessively devote their attention and energy to getting money and devote little attention and energy to doing the giving/helping/serving/networking that leads to the money. Most bloggers never seem to get this simple but powerful concept: if you focus heavily on having fun helping people generously and do not panic or bail on helping people generously because of numbers on a screen, you eventually make more and more money and become a professional blogger.
This powerful idea propels you from amateur new blogger to successful pro blogger if you live this concept daily for hours every day, for years of your life. Expect to help many people for free until you gain the skills and exposure to profit through multiple streams of income. This is how it is. Most bloggers never reach the pro level because they obsess over money and profits and never do the requisite giving to set the foundation for big income and bigger blog traffic.
The money comes after you invest fully in the blogging process of creating helpful content and building meaningful friendships with top bloggers in your niche. Fall in love with this process. Have oodles of fun making friends and helping people. Be content with giving freely to better understand what it takes to earn a full time income through blogging.
Most bloggers blog mainly to make money. Some want to make money to avoid working a job they dislike. Others want to make money to supplement the household income while raising a family. Whatever the reason, if making money is your prime driver you will likely always fail because you obsess over outcomes, not the process. Bad news; obsessing over outcomes like making money guarantees you never learn blogging from pros, practice writing, create content, build friendships and open multiple streams of income, all of the key steps to making money with your blog.
Fall in love with the process. Blog to have fun. Blog to help people. Sure, a small part of you may want to leave your job but this needs to be a small driver, not a big driver, because you need to master the process and love the ride in order to manifest stunning blogging results.
It’s not about being some blogging monk, detached from desires. We all enjoy making money through blogging. But you need to make helping people and befriending people your main drivers to cultivate the generosity, patience and persistence that leads to increased blogging income.
