Blogging is not as simple as writing quality content. Quality content plays a chief role in becoming a successful blogger because readers trust you based on the content you ship. Earning credibility by creating free, valued content is at the crux of succeeding online but unless you respect all blogging moving parts, you fail.
Picture this; you sit down and write a helpful, targeted, quality blog post. What is your ultimate goal? Write a valuable post beneficial to your readers. Awesome. Publish the post. Sit there. Do nothing else. Crickets chirp. Nothing happens. Hey; I just parrot back a question I read on Quora, as the title for this blog post. Bloggers wonder if writing quality content leads to successful blogging, right? Laying out this scenario, thinking it through, writing quality content only ensures YOU read the content. Who will find quality content, other than you? Nobody. Blogs die in the cyber grave yard daily because bloggers write helpful posts, hit the publish button and do nothing else. How do you expect people to find the post? Carrier pigeon? Telepathy? This is why networking generously and SEO play key roles in becoming a successful blogger.
Network generously by commenting on blogs, by promoting other bloggers on your blog and by promoting other bloggers on social media. Check out my recent blog post:
Do you see how I promoted a bunch of my blogging buddies? Guaranteed, a number will comment on the post, promote the post on social media and some may buy my eBooks or courses after reading the blog post. Everything expands the moment you begin networking because people begin to see who you are. Heck; bloggers become aware of your presence. I wrote a quality blog post for sure but if I did not network generously, who would see the blog post? Who would read it? We need a networking element to our blogging campaigns in order to blog from a successful, connected space. Network generously to connect with bloggers, to increase your exposure and to give your quality content the attention it deserves.
Do not spit out your coffee guys. I know you may have just choked on your sandwich. Ryan? Advising SEO? Yes. I am notorious for not optimizing posts for Google but in truth, doing SEO can be a critical step to popping up on radar screens of readers. The key is to actually enjoy doing SEO and also not being a slave to Google.
My friend Anil at Bloggers Passion is an SEO wizard who both teaches how to optimize your blog posts for search engines and who experiences great success by ranking his blog on Google. He is the SEO guy to follow, folks, to figure out how to drive search traffic to your blog. Even though I built a big, loyal community sans SEO I do optimize posts here and there to drive passive, targeted traffic through Google. I strongly advise new bloggers and struggling bloggers at the very least learn some SEO basics to get your blog in front of prying, targeted, hungry eyes.
