As Blogging Tips continues to rapidly grow in size and move back into the top 10,000 on Alexa, it’s time we focused once again on the quality of comments and interaction on the site.
Last month I wrote an awesome post on BasicBlogTips.com titled “Thanks for Your Horrible Spam Comment… DELETE!” and it covered some of the many reasons why blog comments are deleted before they are even posted on a blog.
Here’s a quick recap of the headlines and points I listed in the post.
- Hello… My Name is “Michigan Teeth Whitening”
- My Face is a Big Blue and White Symbol
- “Thanks for writing this amazing blog post!”
- This Gibberish Doesn’t Even Make Sense!
- Guess what blog comment spammers?… Real bloggers aren’t that stupid!
If the reasoning behind these headlines don’t make sense to you, I recommend you go read the full post.
The takeaway here is that spammers and junk comments are all over the place and we (bloggers) will no longer tolerate it. Everyone likes to see more comments on their blog, but when they are pure spam and just posted to get links, then it provides value to no one.
One of the new rules on BloggingTips.com will be that if you don’t have a PICTURE and REAL NAME, the comment simply won’t be posted.
With Google just waiting to throw sites out of the search engines for anything they can think of, these new comment rules will not only help the overall progress of the site, but will also help the user experience and value as well.
I urge all blog owners to follow this same path and improve the blogosphere and make it a better place for all the REAL contributors out there!
