Personal WordPress Theme Owner FAQ

This page was written to answer common questions which users of the Personal WordPress Theme ask. Full support for this theme is provided to customers in the BloggingTips Theme Support Room. Please ask any questions which are not answered on this page in that room.

Installing the theme

There is one folder in the zip file, which should be uploaded to your ‘wp-content/themes’ folder. After uploading, the files should be online at www.yourblog.com/wp-content/themes/PersonalTheme/

After uploading the theme, please go to the Appearance section in your WordPress admin area and activate the theme under the themes area. You can change the theme to suit your needs in the Personal Theme Options page.

The theme is widget ready so you can add content to the sidebar(s) via the widget page.

Removing the BloggingTips Footer Link

Although we appreciate those who link back, we understand why many would prefer to remove the credit link to BloggingTips at the bottom of the page.

To remove this link simply open your footer.php template and remove this section:

  <div class="footright">
     <em>Personal Theme</em> by <a href="http://bloggingtips.com/">Blogging Tips</a>
    </div>

Creating an Archives Page

The custom layout links to an archives page at the bottom of the home page. You can enter the url for this archives page in the additional info section of the options page.

Creating an archives page is really easy. All you need to do is create a new page and then change the template from default to the archives template. Then all you need to do is click publish and your archives page will be live.

Create an Archives Page

Note, you do not need to enter any content into the archives page however if you do, it will be placed at the top of the page with the month and category archives being displayed underneath.

Using Widgets

The Personal Theme is widget ready, which allows you to quickly and easily add and remove content to your sidebar(s) via the widget section of your admin area.

Widgets

The theme comes with two widget areas. The primary sidebar widget is used when one sidebar is selected. The content placed here will be placed on the left hand side when two sidebars are used.

The secondary widget area controls the right sidebar when two sidebars are chosen.

Plugin Issues

The Personal Theme does a lot of things which others use plugins for. Therefore, if you get a blank page after installing this theme please deactivate all your plugins and reactivate them one by one.

Obviously it is impossible to test all plugins out there as there are literally thousands. Though please let us know if you have problems with any specific plugin.

Plugins which may cause problems:

  • Page Navi – Page navigation functionality is already built into the theme so the page navi plugin clashes with the theme.
