Gobala KrishnanI was chatting with Gobala Krishnan last week via Skype and he told me about the launch of his new affiliate marketing system which is aimed at bloggers. For those who haven’t heard the name before, Gobala is an internet entrepreneur who has a wealth of knowledge on affiliate marketing and blogging. The package costs $97. At first glance this does seem like a lot of money however you need to realise that this isn’t just an ebook you are purchasing, you do get a lot for your money.

The ‘Super Affiliate Blogger Main Guide’ is the main part of the system. The other items are tools which will help you use the system online. I will talk through each part of the package below to give you a better understanding of what you are getting for your money.

Super Affiliate Blogger Main Guide (PDF)

The Super Affiliate Blogger Main Guide eBook is the heart of the system and includes a whopping 217 pages. The guide teaches you everything you need to know about building a blog for profit. Put simply, this guide was wrote to show you how you can make money using the WordPress blogging platform as a CMS and shows you how to effectively market your blog using Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing.

As with most eBooks which are WordPress related, the first few chapter show you how to setup and install WordPress on your hosting space. These sections are obviously targeted to beginners however in this book it specifically shows you how to set your blog up to work with this system eg. with static pages etc.

After the introduction chapters the eBook quickly changes it’s focus on how you are going to make money with blogs. There is a lot of emhpasis on keyword research, both on your blog and in your PPC campaigns, and it shows you the research you need to do so that your marketing is profitable. There are also tutorials on how to build links via link exchanges and directory submissions. The eBook then explains how you use PPC sites like Adwords to market your new blog and make it profitable.

I was incredibly impressed with this eBook. I have been working on the web for 8 years now. 6 years ago I ran an affiliate site and forum which reviewed affiliate networks and I would say that generally speaking I understand how affiliate marketing works. However, although I have used PPC to promote sites I have to admit that I still do not know enough about the subject and in many respects you could call me a newbie when it comes to PPC marketing. This is one of the reasons why I got so much from this book. The book walks you through how you successfully market a blog with PPC campaigns to turn a profit though these techniques could be used with many different kinds of websites.

With 217 pages, I’m surprised this eBook isn’t being released in paperback format as the quality is very high. If you are looking for a way to make money through the web then I believe you would learn a lot from reading this eBook.

Super Affiliate Blueprint (PDF)

The Super Affiliate Blueprint eBook is a 7 day worksheet which can be used after you have read the main guide. The 21 pages include a checklist of everything you should be doing on each day of your first week of your blogs life. This is a nice addition and I’m sure it will help those who were still not sure what to do after reading the guide, it basically walks you through every single step of the system.

There is also a ‘Lazy Mans Guide’ at the end which shows you how you can speed up the process if you are willing to pay some people to do some of the work for you.

“Copy and Paste” File

This is just a very small text file which is to be used for reference. It includes the a note of the permalink structure you should be using, adsense section targeting and a list of sites you can ping to get your articles and posts noticed.

Bundled WordPress Plugins Only

All of the plugins included in this download are available elsewhere on the net for free however it’s handy to have them included in the download. All you need to do is upload them to your WordPress blog and install them. The plugins chosen are all add ons which help your blog gain more traffic or save you some time.

10 Super Affiliate Pro Themes

The themes are included to make things easier for you and to save you time hunting for a suitable design. It’s a nice addition to the package however I believe that marketing it as 10 themes is very misleading. All 10 themes are essentially the same except they have a different colour scheme and heading.

Checkout the screenshots below to see what I’m talking about. The 1st screenshot shows the Travel theme, the 2nd screenshot shows the Mobile Phone theme, the 3rd screenshot shows the Dating theme and the last screenshot shows you the Celebrity theme.

As you can see, there is no really major difference between any of themes other than the header. I’m sure some people will appreciate not having to change the design much however I would have preferred 2 or 3 unique themes rather than 1 theme in 10 different colors.

“Cute Links” Link Tracking System

The Cute Links WordPress plugin is a fantastic addition to the package. The plugin allows you to cloak all your affiliate links. It also lets you see how many times the link has been clicked and what pages the links are being clicked on. I have installed it at BloggingTips and I have to say it is one of the most useful plugins I have added to my blog in a long time. I’m kind of annoyed at myself for not adding something like this until now as it really helps you see what pages on your blog are getting the most click throughs.


All in all the CuteLinks plugin is a great inclusion which I am sure you will all find very useful.

“Opt-In Forms Manager” System

The Opt-In Forms Manager is another WordPress plugin which is included in the package. The plugin is used to help you build an email mailing list. Opt-in email lists are a good way to make money and is the main focus of chapter 9 in the main guide. There are many commercial emailing scrpts available on the web however I was still pleased to see a script included in the package (and one which integrated with WordPress). I’m sure that some people may decide not to use an opt-in list on their ‘Super Affiliate Blogs’ but it’s there for them nonetheless.

Opt-In Forms Manager

EWP Keyword Generator

The last item in the package is the EWP Keyword Generator. This script will greatly help you with your keyword research. All you need to do is input one keyword into the software and it will generate the most popular keywords related to it and show the results through Google, Yahoo and MSN (though it didn’t seem to be showing Yahoo figures for me). You are also able to export the data in the csv format for future reference and research (eg. you could open it up in a spreadsheet and add your own notes to each keyword).

It’s not a script which is full of features but it’s handy nonetheless and should help you decide what keywords you want to target.


The most common question bloggers ask is How do I make money through blogging?. It’s the reason why many of you work on your blog day in day out and I’m sure it’s the reason why many of you subscribe to this blog too.

The reality is there are countless ways to make money from a blog and there are many products available which show you ways to do just that. In my opinion Super Affiliate Blogger exceeds over other products because of it’s structured instructions. It clearly explains what you are doing and why and provides all the tools you need to achieve your goal. All the tools which are included in the package complement the main guide so I suppose you could look at Super Affiliate Blogger as an all in one solution. Many eBooks show you how to make money using scripts and services which are not included in the purchase which is why I don’t think it is fair to compare this product to them directly.

So the question I am sure many of you are asking is Does this system work?. Well, thats a question I can’t answer just now as the product was only recently launched. I got access to the product about 5 days ago and in that time I have read the eBook over and tried out the WordPress Plugins. There is an incredible amount of information to digest in the eBook so I have found myself going back to it a few times, particularly for the PPC marketing material which I am still wet behind the ears with 🙂

To answer that sort of question efficiently perhaps you would need to spend a few months using the system and tracking your results however I don’t believe that you should look at the product in this way. Yaro Starak posted a review of Super Affiliate Blogger this morning and made a great point

I will be straight with you – I can’t tell you whether this system will work for you, but if you don’t have a system yet and you are still in the learning and testing phase, this is something you can try and may just turn out to be a winner.

Walking Through an A/B Test Campaign

Basically, this lets you send out two different versions of an email to see which one works the best.

You can choose to perform a split test based on the email subject line or based on the sender’s name. You enter the corresponding information in the fields below.

As of this writing, there are five standard templates that you can use for your email message. Each of these is easily previewed before you select it.

Filling in the content and customizing the layout is performed through a straightforward WYSIWYG, drag-and-drop type editor. Click on any of the elements to customize them, like adding in your own images. In the case of a product listing, the product name, description, current price, and original price are filled out in the right sidebar rather than in the “live” preview on the left.

It only takes a minute or two to design a professional-looking email, complete with branding and a professional layout that looks great on both desktop and mobile. Here’s a quick mockup I put together with some filler text and images. Then, all you need to do is define your recipients, finalize your A/B settings, and send the email! It’s really, really easy to do.

Automation and Workflows

Perhaps one of the more powerful implementations you’ll find in Omnisend is the automation. These are then organized into workflows that you can customize to fit your particular situation. The welcome email is one of the most basic workflows, but you’ll find that something like the cart recovery workflow can be much more powerful.

You have the customer who visited your site, clearly expressed interest in product, and added the item to the cart, but then left without completing the sale. How can you recover that potential sale? With this automated workflow! The workflow is first triggered by the abandoned cart.

After a one-hour delay, the first email can be sent as a gentle reminder to see if they’re “still shopping.” If they don’t come back to complete the sale, a second email is sent 11 hours later as another reminder. After another 12 hours, a third email is sent with a bit more urgency, telling the customer that they should hurry as their cart “is about to expire.”

You can see exactly how many customers have entered the workflow, are currently in the workflow, and have exited the workflow at any given time. An “exit” is defined as making a purchase or receiving the final follow-up email.

Other workflows include an abandoned cart with just one email, browse abandonment, a 3-email welcome drip, and a birthday email, as well as the opportunity construct your own custom workflow.

At the end of each newsletter is a section called “Poolside Chat.” This is where you’ll find “cool tech, (funny) business, lifestyle and all other things affiliates like to chat about.” Some of this stuff might not be directly related to affiliate marketing but still of interest to people who are in the business of affiliate marketing. And you’ll get some clever memes along the way too.

Tasteful Sponsored Content

While there is certainly a website component to What the Aff (more on that in just a moment), the primary focus is understandably on the email newsletter. What you’ll find with some other websites and newsletters in this space is that they can overwhelm you with all the ads, burying the actual content that you want to read. That’s not at all the case with What the Aff.

Near the top of each newsletter, under the header summary for the day, you’ll find a small logo that indicates the day’s newsletter is “brought to you by” XYZ company. The logo is clickable, so you can click on it to visit the sponsor’s website.

Just before the Poolside Chat section of the What the Aff newsletter, you’ll typically also find a sponsored story that is clearly indicated as such. The sponsored story will relate back to the sponsor (of course), but it’s not just one sales pitch after another. This is tasteful content that may actually be useful to you, just like all the other (non-sponsored) content in the newsletter.

For example, a sponsor of one of the more recent newsletters was STALCO. The sponsored story talks about how you may be paying way too much customs duty if you are importing products from overseas and selling to US customers. You are then told about the Duty Drawback Program and how you can take advantage of it, recouping most, if not all, of your import duty.

The Online Archive

For the greatest level of convenience and ease of access, you’re naturally encouraged to subscribe to the What the Aff newsletter via email. There’s a simple, one-line sign-up form on the main page of the site. You can’t miss it and it’s 100% free.

If you’d prefer to read the newsletters on the web, or if you want to reference back to older issues, the full newsletter archive is also offered on the What the Aff website. Based on my own experience these past few days, the daily newsletter appears to be published in the archive on the same day the newsletter is sent out via email.

In either case, the content you’ll get via this newsletter is highly actionable, decidedly relevant, and well-written without fluff. It’s just the straight goods, in five minutes or less. What more could you ask for?
