“Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.” ~ Zen Koan
You may know by now that I am a meditator and yogi. I have meditated for years of my life plus I have done yoga for years.
These days, I meditate for 30 minutes a day, I do 10 minutes of kriya yoga daily and I spend up to 90 minutes doing yin yoga. I also exercise for 90 minutes to 2 hours daily. Why would I spend so much time managing my energy? Life is energy. Blogging success is energy. Managing your energy makes it easier and easier to succeed through your blog because when things get uncomfortable you simply proceed verses turning around and failing.
I have come across a few inspired quotes from my meditation sessions. One Zen koan perfectly embodies the successful blogging journey. Look up top. Read that quote. Do you understand what it means? Enlightened beings are the happiest, most peaceful humans who ever lived because enlightened souls do not identify with their thoughts, feelings or bodies. Imagine liberation. This is the path of the enlightened soul. But being enlightened does not mean you are immune from doing simple things like teaching other humans every day. You have access to unlimited power but in the same respect, you do simple things to benefit humanity.
Blogging success mirrors this Zen quote. People get some strange idea that successful bloggers take some magic path and engage in some magical activities as their traffic and profits increase. Nope. I sit here on a Saturday afternoon writing this guest post. I have been working since 10 a.m. I broadcast a live video on Facebook. I recorded a podcast. I responded to a few folks on Twitter. I read a few posts and commented on a few blogs. Does this sound sexy? No. Does this sound spectacular? No. People who have not experienced blogging success believe pro bloggers live some type of magical day or engage in some type of spectacular blogging tactics. No. Not true. We create helpful content and build friendships with fellow bloggers. We create helpful content and bond with our readers. This happens during our amateur days and it happens during our professional blogger days. Nothing changes as far as the fundamentals because you need to stick to the fundamentals in order to become more and more successful.
Enlightened souls simply chop wood and carry water before becoming enlightened and after becoming enlightened. No big deal. Ditto for successful bloggers who blog from a generous, loving, abundant energy. I am slowly becoming more well-known in the blogging tips niche and in the travel blogging niche but I never viewed myself as being special or some big deal. I create content and bond with human beings. No matter what level of worldly success I have reached or will reach, I will just create content and bond with human beings because successful blogging is following the fundamentals every single day from a generous, abundant and trusting energy.
Although you will have more worldly success including more money and more traffic as you become an established, pro blogger, the day-to-day stuff stays the same. Nothing really changes. Sure you will scale more and perhaps you’ll move into a few different activities but nothing changes in terms of creating helpful content and building meaningful connections with top bloggers in your niche, as well as bonding with your readers.
Chop wood. Carry water.
