Teachable vs Wix: Discover the best platform for online courses. Compare ease of use, customization, pricing, and course creation features.
Wix has done a lot of ads and marketing campaigns over the years, so it is not unlikely that you are familiar with the fact that this company can help you create a website.
Of course, if you want to create a website that you can sell a course on, you are going to be able to do so on Wix. The possibilities are seemingly endless with this particular platform.
The free version is pretty limited, though, so to be able to actually create a course you may have to buy different plugins for your site.
Teachable, on the other hand, is a pure course building platform. If you don’t want to get into the ins and outs of creating a site, this is probably what you are going to want to look into.
This platform is going to outline the creation process for you and give you a drag and drop builder that is seemingly easy to use!
How do these two stack up against each other? Let’s find out.
Out of the website builders out there, Wix claims to be the easiest for people with minimal experience in web design.
Offering all sorts of templates to create a unique site, Wix has some good options. When it comes to building courses, there are parts that are actually not that hard.
For example, you can set up a private section of the site where only paid members can access relatively easily.
The problem is most people are looking for better structure within this process and they end up going with Udemy or other platforms integrated to their Wix site.
In a sense that is having to pay for two products for one purpose.
Teachable is a pure course building platform. Therefore, once you enter, you can be guided through building your course.
This is certainly going to make the process much easier for people who really don’t want to take the trouble to manage an entire site.
You could actually create the site on Teachable and promote it through a Wix site. That is pretty much all you need to know to figure out who wins here!
Winner: Teachable
The thing with Wix and other platforms like WordPress is that you are going to be able to create a great course that design-wise, can look nothing like anything you have ever seen.
To do this though, you would have to find the right plugins and themes to use. Still, the possibilities here as far as customization goes are virtually endless!
If there is one Achilles heel for this platform, it may just be this customization part.
The process of creating the course is so easy to use, and part of it may be that you won’t have that many options to choose from as far as the way that the course is essentially presented.
As was mentioned before, you can fix that by actually combining Teachable and Wix. Still, we have to say that we know who the clear winner here happens to be!
Winner: Wix
Wix promises to be a free option to be able to build your website. That is not a lie, but there are many different things that come with that. The free version tends to be very limited.
The features that you can get on the free version are not going to allow you to create a reliable course that you can charge for and only grant access to paid members to it.
The reason why it is hard to keep track of the cost is that you may have to pay for certain plugins, and you may have to pay an extra fee to make sure that the platform is able to host multiple people on it simultaneously.
The free versions tend to crash when they get more traffic. You could also end up having to pay for plugins to be able to create your course.
Amongst the platforms that are essentially just pure course builders, Teachable stands out as maybe the less expensive platform on the market.
You are going to be able to get yearly access to their starter plan at $360 for the full year.
This starter plan already includes unlimited students on the platform. Something that is rare for plans at this level and at this price.
At the end of the day, you will only have to worry about paying one provider for this service and not keeping track of all the added costs.
This is something that you couldn’t get with Wix!
Potentially you could combine the two and only pay for the cost of Teachable and use Wix as a landing page.
After giving it, some thought, here is the winner and final tally!
Winner: Teachable prices are the best.
Wix: 1/3
Teachable: 2/3
